Moving PBSW to a New Computer - perhaps one with a different operating system, like VISTA.
As of this writing (December 2008), there have been no problems installing pbsw onto a VISTA machine. There are rumblings of a new Microsoft OS to be released in a year or two, but we all will have to wait until that is finalized in Redmond.
It is quite easy to move PBS to a new computer. Here are the three steps:
Download and install the PBSW24 demo. This will set up all the folders properly, will give you an icon on the desktop, and will produce a set of entries in the Windows Start Button menu.
Copy the data files from the current c:\pbsw24\data folder to the new data folder of the same name on the new machine. Please make sure that you copy files from the data folder to the new folder; do not make the mistake of copying the folder to the new folder, because then you will wind up with your data in a folder named c:\pbsw24\data\data,and you will wonder why your records are not accessible.
Copy the PBSW24.EXE file from the current c:\pbsw24 folder to the new folder of the same name on the new machine.
And that's all for the basic installation. If you are setup either for multiple data sets or for network operation, tho, you will have to go through some extra steps; see the instructions for those topics on the PBSW2 installation page.
